KHMER YOUTH PROGRAM
The Khmer Youth Project of Jane/Finch aims to increase community protective factors for youth of Cambodian descent residing in the Jane/Finch community and surrounding areas of Downsview. This strengthening will be accomplished by providing youth related activities and increasing community participation within the Cambodian community for the Cambodian youth.

These will be achieved by the following youth activities identified by the youth as priorities:
YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
This year, in response to the needs of a new emerging group of Cambodian youth, the youth activities will include a Youth Health Promotion Leadership Workshop Series. This will involve a series of workshops on leadership and health promotion. Following the training, participating youth will form sub-groups to work on specific health promotion projects, which will build upon our existing youth program. A focus will be to enhance current activities by recruiting more participants and through health promotion initiatives.
TUTORING PROGRAM
This year the tutoring project was added because of a group calls themselves the ABC group, which stands for Achievements for the Betterment of Cambodians. This addition was based on low verbal and written English skills among Cambodian families. This limitation proved to be a barrier for Cambodian families in providing learning support to their children. This activity effectively addressed this need while fostering community cohesion. The program will continue to hear from this committee on the program directions, the current issues facing youth and the daily challenges that youth face, which could cause them to seek drug as a means of dealing with problems. This activity will continue.
